In my second attempt at NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, I could not find the right strategy to satisfy my expectations. My second NCAA Championship race took place on one of the most iconic cross country courses in the USA. The course's was solely build to host cross country meets and its dimensions are impressive: 800m start straight, 90m wide start line and a hilly 5k loop which had to be run twice. This weekends wet conditions made the course to one of the most...

Finishing 7th at the NCAA South Central Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas, secured me my second individual qualifier spot for NCAA Nationals. It is a rare that I am really nervous before races but for this time was different. There was a lot on the line at the NCAA Regional Championships: only four individual athletes will get the chance to compete at nationals which is my main goal since several months. Additionally, I also knew this is my senior year following that one of my final cross...

Last weekend, I finished 8th at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The race in Kentucky took place in a small park and to my surprise reminded me strongly on European cross country courses. There were large gravel sections, tight turns and several steep and challenging hills in this course, which is quite different to the usual wide, fast courses here in the US. I started the race pretty well and positioned myself in the leading group. As it is normal in...

At Arturo Barrios Invitational, I could show my improvement, finishing in 8th position. The second race of the season was another chance for a hard training session and test my improving shape ahead of NCAA Regionals in one month. Following that my past weeks of training were quite challenging. Despite the hard training, I felt pretty decent and I found myself in the front positions after the first straight. After the first 800m the pace slowed down and I took the lead. I ran trough the first...

Satisfying season opener at Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas after some rough weeks. The past weeks of training did not quite go as planned: issues with my IT-Band forced me to alter my plans which meant that I missed out on the first race of the season and my training looked quite different as planned. Luckily, we found a way to treat my tendon and since two weeks, my training has been surprisingly good. Following that, we decided to race the first big race of the season. I was...

As part of my season preparation, I tested my shape against strong competition at Ägeriseelauf. After two training weeks in the high altitude of St. Moritz, I traveled to Oberägeri to compete in this 14.1k race around the lake. Right from the first meter, Tadesse Abraham, national record holder in marathon, took the lead irresistible to win the race in course record time. Behind him, a chase group formed with Marcel Berni and Adrian Lehmann, I tried to hang on to this pack because within a...

Following that I decided to race the 'Ägeriseslauf' as one of my key sessions for this week. In Portland, Oregon, I missed my goal in my last 5000m of the season. The waiting game continuous. The race went out unexpected slow. Our pacemaker planned to hit 66 second laps which is way faster than I ever ran. Following that my race plan was it to start conservative in the back of the pack and work my way up. But after the first 200m I found myself in the Top 10 and it seemed like no one want to follow the pacemaker. We ran our first 400m in 69 seconds and it followed quite a big change in...
